What is Ledger® Live?

Ledger® Live is the official desktop and mobile companion app that lets users manage cryptocurrency wallets securely from a single interface. Whether you are checking balances, sending and receiving crypto, or installing apps to a hardware wallet, Ledger® Live provides a straightforward workflow designed for safety and convenience.

Getting started & download

Download Ledger® Live from the official Ledger® website and install the Desktop or Mobile app. The desktop version supports Windows, macOS and Linux, while the mobile app (iOS/Android) pairs with Ledger® hardware via USB or Bluetooth on supported models. Always verify the download checksum and the official URL to avoid counterfeit copies.

Ledger® Live wallet basics

Ledger® Live acts as the management layer for your hardware wallet. It displays account balances, transaction history, tokens and NFTs, and lets you install application packages on your device. Your private keys never leave the hardware — Ledger® Live only signs transactions through the connected device, keeping custody on the hardware wallet itself.

Login & account access

Ledger® Live login revolves around device authentication and, optionally, a Ledger® Live password for the app (not a substitute for seed phrase). To sign in you connect your Ledger® hardware, open Ledger® Live, and enter your PIN on the device. If you enabled a password in the app, supply it to unlock the local interface; never share your recovery phrase with any app or support staff.

Troubleshooting common login issues

  • Reconnect using the original USB cable and different ports.
  • Restart Ledger® Live and the host computer; update firmware.
  • Enable OS permissions for USB/Bluetooth and update drivers.
  • Check for conflicts from VPNs, VMs, or other wallet software.

Unable to connect Ledger® to Trezor?

Ledger® and Trezor are separate hardware ecosystems; direct device-to-device connection is not supported. To move funds, export receiving addresses and send tokens from one device to the other after confirming addresses on the hardware screens.

Account recovery & 2FA reset

If you lose access to your Ledger® device, recovery uses your 24-word recovery phrase on a compatible hardware wallet — this is the critical backup. Ledger® Live does not store your recovery phrase. There’s no central 2FA reset: recovery relies on your seed phrase. If compromise is suspected, transfer funds to a new wallet generated from a secure seed.

Error connecting & app not working

Common causes include outdated firmware, incompatible USB drivers, or corrupted cache. Update Ledger® Live, reinstall drivers, clear app cache (Settings > Help > Clear data). If problems persist, export logs and contact Ledger® Support.

Verification issues

If Ledger® Live shows “Can’t verify wallet”, ensure firmware and app are current and always confirm addresses on the hardware screen. Ledger® Support will never ask for your recovery phrase — treat any such request as a scam.
